The low fat and high fibre content result in a low energy density. This allows a considerable amount of food to be fed even during periods of weight loss, helping to satisfy the dog’s appetite. L-carnitine transports fatty acids into the mitochondria and stimulates fat oxidation and the preservation of muscle mass. The high protein content helps to maintain muscle and satisfy the dog’s appetite during the period of weight loss. Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) help to maintain normal joint mobility in obese dogs. Omega-3 fatty acids also help to maintain healthy skin and coat. Low glycaemic index cereals (whole wheat and oats), high fibre and chromium levels reduce postprandial hyperglycaemia.
Weight Reduction is indicated for dogs with obesity, diabetes mellitus, colitis, chronic diarrhea, constipation, hyperlipidemia and cholestasis. Not recommended for small puppies and pregnant or lactating bitches with high energy needs.
